Objective: Schizophrenia is a complex psychiatric disorder with various etiological factors. Chromosomal aberrations among factors were important contributing factors in schizophrenia. This study was aimed to detect chromosomal abnormality in schizophrenia.
Methods:We have screened 22q11-13 for chromosomal aberrations in 30 patients with schizophrenia by array-comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) and have been able to identify DNA aberration in schizophrenia. To confirm genomic imbalances identified with array-CGH, DNA samples with genomic changes were analyzed real-time PCR.
Results:Main locations of chromosome aberrations indicated in 22q11.2, 22q12.1-2 region. Numbers deleted genomic copy number were 11 cases in 22q11.2 region and 8 cases in 22q12.1-2 region. Also, real-time PCR results were well correspondence with all CGH results.
Conclusion:This study suggest that array-CGH is useful for detection of chromosomal aberrations in schizophrenia. our research could make possible candidate gene approach of schizophrenia and contribute to discover pathogenesis of schizophrenia. (Schizophrenia Clinics 2005;8:74-79) |
