Abstract |
Objectives:Since any antipsychotics have not been warranted to be totally safe for the developing fetus, pharmacotherapeutic
treatments for pregnant schizophrenic patients need cautious consideration. Alternately, somatic treatment such as TMS may be
also an alternative treatment for the pregnant schizophrenic patients. We report the effect of rTMS as the adjuvant treatment to
risperidone in the pregnant schizophrenic patients. Methods:rTMS was applied to a pregnant schizophrenic woman after maintaining of risperidone 3 mg for 2 weeks. The patient
was received high frequency (10 Hz) on left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex for 10 min and subsequently low frequency (1 Hz) on
left temporal lobe for 10 min. rTMS was applied totally 18,000 Hz for 15 days. PANSS, CDSS was measured at baseline, week 1,
week 2, week 3 and neurocognitive test was applied before rTMS and at week 4 after rTMS. Results:The PANSS total score and CDSS symptoms were decreased after rTMS while positive and negative symptoms were
not decreased. Conclusion:This case suggests TMS may also be an adjuvant strategy in treating pregnant schizophrenic patients. (Korean J
